Have you ever wanted to put your hands into pulpy clouds like I do in all of those gratuitous instagram photos of mine? Now is your chance!
The first ever SHare Studios Papermaking Workshop is totally happening. It still feels a little surreal, but we’re finally moved into our new live/work studio in the amazing Globe Dye Works building in Philadelphia, and I’m thinking it’s about time to start sharing my fancy new “paper mill” with you fellow paper enthusiasts.
This will be my first in person workshop ever. Pretty exciting stuff. I can’t wait to welcome you into my home and studio and make some paper. We’ll take a dive into papermaking for beginners, touching upon both Western and Eastern papermaking concepts, various fibers and their different attributes, as well as talk about ways to begin your own papermaking practice at home. I’ll share my new expanded studio set up with you, and you’ll get a chance to try out my brand new collection of magnetic mould and deckles. We’ll also have a quick intro to Hollander beaters and discuss drying systems. We’ll then use the rest of the day to splash around in vats with a few different fiber options, so that you can get a feel for different pulps and paper styles. You may even feel inspired to bring along interesting inclusions, or creative ideas for add to your sheets. Pulp painting could be fun too! Experimenting is the best part of papermaking, so I can’t wait to splash around with fellow creative paper enthusiasts and make some beautiful handmade paper. You’ll get to keep all sheets that you make (I’ll ship them to you after the sheets have finished drying in my extensive drying system), and you’ll even receive the password to my online tutorial so that you can study up a bit before hand, and reference as you continue your papermaking journey.
Workshop date is Saturday May 25th, from 10-5pm. Refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the day for all of that good papermaking fuel.
Limited to 6 participants so that everyone can have plenty of time splashing around in the vats and puling sheets.
You will receive an email with the tutorial password and further info about the day.
Can’t make it to this in person workshop? Be sure to check out my online tutorial… the next best thing.
As always, I am grateful for the opportunity to share this craft with you.
